July 2011 Update

While in Moldova, we got used to writing monthly updates for supporters. Since returning, we have not kept up the practice. However, we know that many people are still praying for us, so I thought I would give you an update so that you can know what God has done and what we still need him to do.
We moved to Louisville last week. We are now unpacked and settled into our apartment. We enjoy where we live very much. It is beautiful. There is a lot of grass and a big playground. In Moldova, Jude got used to going and running and playing everywhere on the big camp property, so it is good that he has a safe and grassy place to play in the city.
Also, our apartment complex is very diverse. It is for low-income families like ourselves. About 50% of the residents are seminary students. Another large group of residents are international refugees, mostly from Nepal and Burma. Then the rest are other low-income families. Needless to say, it is a mission field. We enjoy looking outside and seeing people of every color and culture who are made to worship God.
So far I do not have a job. Please pray for this. I am continuing to send out resumes to churches, but this is a slow process. Many churches require a Master’s degree, but even those that do not require a Master’s degree have committees who move slow. Someone told me that, on average, Kentucky churches go 15 months between pastors. So, a candidate like myself must wait about that same time period to find a position. I have only been sending out resumes for 7 months, so if I am like the average, I have many more months to go before finding a ministry position.
In the meantime, I am looking for any job that will provide for the needs of my family. I have applied to many but have only been searching for a secular job within the last few days. I am confident that I will get one within a week or two. In all this, God continues to provide through churches and through generous people.
Seminary classes start on August 15. I am taking three classes: Greek, Spiritual Disciplines, and Baptist History. I am excited about all of them, and I know that they are taught by godly men.
It was hard to leave Moldova, but I know that God wants us here right now. He has already taken care of today, and tomorrow is equally in his hands.
Pray for us.
